Uppsala International Summer Session is a non-profit foundation that offers annual summer courses in the Swedish language, culture, history, and society for two weeks, three weeks, six weeks, and nine weeks. Since 1963, we have received thousands of students. They come from different backgrounds but, after completing their studies at UISS, they all have one thing in common: increased knowledge of the Swedish language and a deeper understanding of the Swedish culture and history. Also, they have made lasting friendships.

Each year, about 35 former students return to study at UISS. In 2017, 235 students from 45 different countries have studied at UISS. Our intensive courses, intended for serious and motivated students, are taught in central Uppsala.

Our Swedish language teachers are all qualified to teach at an academic level, have an academic degree specifically for teaching Swedish as a foreign language, and work at different universities during the academic year. Classes have a high academic and educational standard, wherein the addition of the newest teaching methods, result to an active and stimulating atmosphere.

Each Friday our students go on cultural and historical excursions. Check out our recent video to have a peek of the fun our participants have while in Uppsala!

1. Studying Swedish in Sweden for a summer together with over 200 students from all over the world with different backgrounds, while being immersed in the language and culture, is an amazing experience different from anything you will have experienced at school/university. You will make new friends and learn a new language in Sweden's most lively student city.

2. The Friday excursions to various sites around the Stockholm-Uppsala are and Dalarna, ranging from the ABBA and Vasa ship museum, to the world heritage site the Falun copper mine, the home of Carl Larsson, famous painter, and the huge Dala horse.

3. The optional longer trips to Swedish Lapland, Värmland and Finland (Helsinki).

4. The social evenings and events, ranging from a potluck dinner, to movie nights and a traditional crayfish dinner - including the hats, bibs and songs that go with it!

5. The Farewell Dinner, in the theme of a typical Uppsala student gasque, with Swedish food and drinks, songs and sketches and a big after-dinner party.

All in all you'll go home tired, but happy and you'll have learned a lot in all sorts of ways.
