The Pop Wuj "Spanish for Teachers" Program is designed for elementary and middle school teachers, as well as students and professionals in the educational field interested in Spanish immersion and gaining teaching experience in a Spanish environment. Learn and share education methods with Guatemalan teachers and teach study techniques to Guatemalan children in urban and rural schools in the highlands of Guatemala.

In the first week, participants attend conferences that cover cultural competencies including the history of Guatemalan education, the social-political history of Guatemala and Latin America, the general history of the country and of Latin America, and the current state of the Guatemalan education system in order to understand the cultural and fundamental philosophy of Guatemala. Student teaching in the public school system starts generally in the second week of the program including observation and/or hands-on practice in an urban or rural classroom.

Generally, student teaching in the public school system starts in the second week of the program, after the first week of cultural competency, however there can be certain exceptions:

* When the level of Spanish of the student is basic and they need to concentrate more time on their language study to improve their level of communication
* When, for reasons of space, the student has to wait until the school where they will work is able to offer them a position
* When the student decides, for whatever reason, not to participate in the student teaching portion and decides instead only to focus on the theory of the education systems in Guatemala

This Spanish for Teachers program follows Guatemala's school year and runs from January through September. There is a minimum time commitment of four weeks in this program.
