La Academia de España is a full Spanish 4-weeks immersion program for students in grades 9-12, with 2 or more years of Spanish. Students commit to speaking Spanish, in class and on activities, for the duration of the program. La Academia takes place in the Colegio Mayor Fray Luis de León, in Salamanca, a beautiful university town that was the birthplace of Spanish language study and teaching. Students are taught by local university teachers and artists. They choose two courses - a major and a minor – which are taught entirely in Spanish. Theses interactive courses, coupled with a full calendar of activities – including field trips to Madrid and Segovia - enable them to live like locals for a month, fully exposing them to Spanish culture. One of the great European cities, Barcelona attracts artists, scholars, and thinkers from around the world. Our program allows students to experience life in this exciting city, where literature, art, music, fashion and design, technology, and cuisine are all of the greatest quality. For those whose goal is to improve their Spanish, they can immerse themselves in the language as well as the culture. All the while, they remain in a safe and structured environment, overseen by our experienced and caring staff.

All of our courses, regardless of subject area, are designed to introduce students to new subjects and skills. As much as possible, classes venture out into Barcelona to see and understand their subject in an immediate and tangible way. We put students in small classes to study exciting and engaging courses conducted by lively and imaginative teachers with Barcelona as a classroom for all.

Our program includes daily activities and outings to ensure that Barcelona is made accessible, and that our students enjoy a truly memorable experience. During their month in Spain students enjoy day-long field trips, which include:

This walled city dates from Roman times when it occupied a strategic location between the Pyrenees and Barcelona. It combines narrow, cobbled streets with magnificent monuments, Arab baths, convents, churches, and a cathedral. Students can visit the Museum of Jewish History, which contains the world's finest collection of medieval funerary slabs engraved in Hebrew.

Located to the south of Barcelona, this ancient Roman city on the Mediterranean boasts some of the best preserved Roman ruins on the Iberian Peninsula. Tarragona remains a major seaport and center of commerce. Students spend their day here visiting the Roman amphitheatre, the Praetoriam - a Roman tower from the third century and taking a guided tour of the National Museum of Archaeology which contains the most important collection of Roman artifacts in Catalonia. Afterwards, students visit the lovely beaches of the Costa Dorada.

Atop the highest peak of Barcelona, Tibidabo is one of the most recognizable landmarks of the city and is home to its best views. Students spend the day taking in the sights, visiting the Neo-Gothic Sagrat Cor temple at the peak of the mountain, and enjoying the rides and games of the historic Tibidabo amusement park.

Students may choose to participate in structured activities or take advantage of the hundreds of other opportunities the city provides. On-site or just nearby, students have access to a gym, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Our sports program includes soccer, basketball, yoga, fitness classes, and jogging, as well as outings to swimming pools and local beaches.
